Subscribe to home page news
Why Subscribe?
If you subscribe, you will receive an email message whenever a new news item is added to the home page. It saves you checking the site for updates and it is open to anyone. You do not need to be a member of the North Shore Hikers to subscribe.
How to Subscribe
To request a subscription enter you email address and click Subscribe. A window will open with a "Captcha" word image. You must type in the word to show you are a person, not a spam robot.
You are almost done. After you request a subscription, Feedburner (the service that sends the news email) will send you an email message to verify your request and email address. You must click on the link (the line of underlined blue text) to activate your subscription. This is a another security precaution.
Now you are done! Once you have verified, you are subscribed and you will get news updates.
Here is an example email news update message with one new news item:

Note: this service only subscribes you to the home page, not to the forum. You must subscribe in the forum to get forum email alerts (and you must be a registered member to subscribe to the forum).
Also note: the service isn't instant; Google Feedburner, the service that sends the email, checks once a day in the early hours of the morning. If there is nothing new on the home page, you don't receive a message. If there is new news, you receive a message.
Subscribing isn't the same as registering
Subscribing to the home page is not the same as registering. Anyone can subscribe to get home page news updates, allowing non-members as well as members to keep up with club news.
Likewise, registering to get full forum access does not give you a home page subscription. Each is separate. If you want both (and both are worthwhile), you must both register (members only) and subscribe.
Another way to get updates to the home page is via RSS. See Help>Website for more information about RSS.
To Unsubscribe
Click "unsubscribe" in a news update email message (see the example above).
