NSH Club Help
Can I try out a hike before joining? (Attending as a guest)
You are welcome to try a hike before joining. From our schedule (use the Schedule button at the top of the page) pick a hike suitable for your fitness level. The classification of hikes page explains the hike rating system. Contact the Membership Secretary who will ask about your hiking experience to make sure the hike is suitable, and will tell you how to contact the hike leader. We charge non-members $5 for insurance (bring the exact amount with you as the hike leader does not make change) and you must sign a waiver each time you hike with the club. You may attend two hikes as a non-member and a singe $5 insurance fee covers both hikes.
Please join us, but remember: a non-member who arrives without prearrangement, proper equipment and $5 for insurance must be turned away. No exceptions.
What is an A, B or C hike?
We grade our hikes by duration, difficulty and elevation gain. An A hike is a beginner hike of no more than 5 hours hiking time, B hike 5 to 7 hours and C hike over 7 hours. Small a is up to 500 m gain, b is 500 m to 1000 m gain, etc. Refer to our classification of hikes for detailed definition.
Meeting points and carpooling
We usually meet in East Vancouver or West Vancouver meeting places, both of which are accessible by public transit. There, we arrange carpools to the trail head. Refer to our Meeting Places for location detail.
