Attention North Shore Hiker Members:

I require your help.  I’m participating in this year’s Ride to Conquer Cancer that takes place, June 2010.  This two day cycling journey starts in Vancouver and finishes up in Seattle.  My goal is to complete this challenging 260 Km bike ride and raise $2500.00 for cancer research.

If any of you are interested in making a donation to help me reach my financial goal, please visit my personal site in the enclosed link below:

David's site

or

http://www.conquercancer.ca/site/TR/Events/Vancouver2010?px=2241099&pg=personal&fr_id=1331

Once you have accessed my personal site, you can either make an online donation or you can download and print a donation form and mail this form along with a cheque to the BC Cancer Foundation.

If you decide to make a donation of at least $10.00 before the end of 2009, you will receive a tax receipt that is applicable for this coming taxation year.

If you have any questions, please get back to me.

Thank you in advance for your help,

NORTH SHORE HIKERS 1ST ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY – DECEMBER 12TH

Well, here we are – less than one week away from the 1st North Shore Hikers Christmas Party and Santa has a few reminders to share with you.  Now Santa does not usually drink but he knows some of you wonderful hikers would like perhaps a little Christmas Cheer in a bottle and that will be OK – it is BYOB, however,  Santa will be watching you because we are all going to arrive home safely.

There will be approximately 75 of us happy hikers/cyclist/skiers and the food – Oh My – a cruise ship has nothing on us – turkey will be provided and the variety of dishes will be a treat to behold.  Now along with your incredible dishes could you please bring a serving utensils – plates will be provided but in an effort to be green, it would be grand if everyone could please bring their own eating utensils.  Don’t forget we do not want to see anyone eating with fingers.  Due to the limited kitchen space, it would be best if we provide the plates.

We are thrilled that so many are coming to the party but still have room for more people if anyone decides later on that they would like to come and join in the festivities, please let us know  – we could sure use some people with musical talents – Don’t be shy.

There will be several door prizes to be won kindly donated by or through unsolicited effort of various members.

At this time of year also, it is important that we also think of others who are not so fortunate as us to be able to go out hiking, cycling etc. and therefore, we will have a table set aside for the food bank.

There is still time to join in, e-mail Margaret for attendance and Gillian for your food contribution.

Do not forget the party starts at 6 pm on December 12th – Sunrise Community Hall -  1950 Windermere Street, Vancouver.

Santa will be watching for you next Saturday – he will be there!

It is time for all to start practising writing skills.

It is time for all to start practising writing skills and read about picture composition. Here is why. During the last directors' meeting on June 8th, Ryszard and Nader proposed adding an interactive part to our existing web site. It will enable every registered NSH member to write trip reports and add pictures straight to the web. The proposal was passed by the directors and the work started. The trial will start soon. Stay tuned.

"Scrambles in Southwest BC” by Matt Gunn reprinted

"Scrambles in Southwest BC” by North Shore Hikers executive Matt Gunn has recently been reprinted after almost 2 years of being unavailable. The book is currently available for order at the Cairn Publishing website (www.cairnpublishing.com). This guidebook covers the middle ground between hiking and mountaineering. It offers access to incredible wilderness summits without using ropes or advanced climbing techniques. In this guide, experienced hikers and mountaineers will find a wide range of route difficulties, from trails leading to summits, to challenging snow and rock ascents.
